Yamaha TSR-700
Two of these receivers run this house, one in the living room and one in the studio. This page holds what is known so far. The verdict comes later.
What is known so far
- There are two in the house: one in the living room, one in the studio.
- The studio unit takes commands over the home network through Yamaha's local control API. A script on the Mac uses it to switch sound programs (the auto sound-mode build).
- The script uses two of its sound programs: the Dolby Surround decoder for movies, and All-Channel Stereo for music and the browser.
- Before switching, the script asks the receiver for its status and leaves it alone if it is switched off.
What this review will cover
- Music in plain stereo compared with All-Channel Stereo in the same room.
- Movies through the Dolby Surround decoder.
- Living with network control: does it stay reachable, and how fast does it respond?
- Whether it fits a house run by Home Assistant and Music Assistant.
